Make your own raw goodies and save yourself a fortune on buying the shop bought ‘health food bars’. These are SO easy. No need to bake. Just mix all ingredients together, pat down in a tray and freeze for 2 hours. Then cut into granola size slices and refreeze until ready to munch. Here we go…
2 cups of sesame seeds
1/2 cup light tahini*
1 cup of raisins
1/2 cup milled flaxseeds/linseeds*
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/4 cup of melted coconut oil
1/3 cup honey, agave nectar or (my favourite) coconut nectar
1tsp good quality vanilla extract
Pinch of himalayan or good quality sea salt
This is the basic recipe (you don’t have to use desiccated coconut if you aren’t keen).
The main things you must include are the sesame seeds, flaxseeds, tahini and coconut oil. The rest is up to you.
Try things like cinnamon, dried apricots, nuts and cacao nibs to add a different dimension. Try adding your fave superfoods too – like maca powder.
*You can get these items from Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and most good supermarkets. Aldi sells milled flaxseeds.
See the article about the benefits of flaxseeds for blood pressure below. Sesame seeds are high in zinc – good for energy and libido! Mwah.
